DARE is an education program sponsored by the La Grange Police Department. It is a component of the District 102 fifth grade health curriculum. The DARE officer engages the students in activities and discussions about the negative effects of smoking, as well as, drug and alcohol abuse, peer pressure, and the importance of having good friends. The primary focus of DARE is to emphasize making appropriate choices.
Much of what we do in DARE reinforces concepts taught in our SEL curriculum.
DARE is an acronym which means Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or the decision-making model: Define, Assess, Respond, Evaluate.
Battle of the Books is a program designed to encourage 4th grade students to read as many quality books as possible in their leisure time. After reading the assigned books, students are placed into teams which compete in a Literature based trivia competition. The winning Ogden team then competes in a District wide event.

Chorus is a group of 5th and 6th grade singers who perform at Ogden's winter and spring concerts, as well as a possible community performance in the spring.
5th and 6th grade students meet at lunchtime. Chorus starts in October and runs through March. Additional rehearsals may be called if performances are added.

Keyboarding is offered at Ogden to third through sixth grade students via the E-Mate. Keyboarding class teaches the student how to type correctly through the "Type To Learn" program. Students can take the class more than once.
The keyboarding class commitment consists of 25 school days, and can be taken either from 7:45am to 8:05am or from 3:20pm to 3:40pm. There are no classes on Tuesday mornings or Wednesday afternoons.
Each student is able to take the class at no charge ONE TIME during their education career in District 102. After the first free session is taken, there is a $25.00 fee per student, per session.

Ogden School presents a program each year to provide support to children who have experienced a loss as a result of their parents' separation or divorce, or the death of a close loved one.
The Rainbows program consists of twelve sessions, divided into two six-week semesters. Small groups of children from similar age categories meet once a week and share an activity which focuses on a theme related to their needs. The groups are led by trained adults.
The adults, as well as the children, are bound by confidentiality which fosters trust and provides a safe atmosphere for sharing. The groups meet during the lunch hour or after school from 3:15 - 4:00. Children involved know the schedule and their parents have been contacted, as this is not an open participation group.

5th and 6th grade students are divided into 2 groups, within 2 teams. Each team is on duty for two week periods - two weeks on, two weeks off, trading off with the other team. One group within each team is on duty before school and before lunch; the second group of that team is on duty after lunch and after school.

Math Club is for 3rd through 6th grade students who like to meet with friends who enjoy Math games.
The club meets one day per week after school from 3:15 to 4:15 in the LRC. See the Calendar or the Upcoming Events sections of the website for club meeting dates.
The first 1/2 hour is grouped by grade level with different themes differentiated to the children.
The second 1/2 hour students play a variety of math related games, including chess, 24, mancala, etc.
The last three weeks are tournament weeks. Students sign up by grade level. These are game related.
Speech and Drama Club is for 5th and 6th grade students interested in the performing arts. Students perform a short play for the whole school and for parents.
Students who wish to act audition for parts. Others work on costumes, props, and sets. All are welcome!
Student Service and Spirit Club is for 5th and 6th grade students who show an interest in improving the school community.
The club meets on Mondays at lunchtime, September through May.
